Transitioning from 3D Minecraft to Griffpatch's 2D Paper Minecraft is an exhilarating experience. While the core survival principles remain identical, the 2D side-scrolling perspective introduces unique tactical advantages—and unexpected dangers.

Surviving the First 10 Minutes

When you spawn into a fresh world, your top priority is harvesting wood:

1. Hold left click on adjacent tree blocks to collect 4-5 oak logs.
2. Press E to open your 2x2 crafting grid, convert logs into planks, and craft a 3x3 Crafting Table.
3. Craft a wooden pickaxe and immediately dig into the ground to extract cobblestone and coal.
4. Upgrade to stone tools immediately; wooden tools should never be used once stone is secured.

Building an Inpenetrable Night Bunker

In 2D space, monsters can only approach you from the left or right. Digging a 3-block-deep trench with a single trapdoor creates an effortless defensive choke point where you can strike zombie shins without taking damage.

Journey to the Nether

Once you forge an iron bucket, collect water and lava to create 10 obsidian blocks. Arrange them in a 4x5 vertical rectangle, ignite the interior with flint and steel, and step into the Nether to harvest blaze rods and nether wart.
